Cumbria Gateway is a progressive and innovative Social Enterprise that provides user-led, person centred health and social care services within substance and alcohol misuse. It was founded by recovering substance users and evolved as a response to service delivery gaps. Current provision offers limited choice with only professionals supporting those in treatment.
Following treatment, there is no continuation of support. This time is critical as people are more likely to go back into addiction. Peers that are in recovery see the red flags of relapse early and can respond appropriately to individuals. Members in later stages of recovery provide hope for new members that recovery is possible, whilst gaining a sense of purpose, increased self-esteem and continue to build positive relationships with others.
To offer a peer led supportive environment in which people can recover from addiction and develop positive futures in their local community.
